Day 7….Rest Day…sort of 🤷♂️
Today is a very well deserved rest day! It was great to see the Cal’s Angels crew down at breakfast this morning. A couple cups of coffee, some breakfast potatoes with bacon and eggs really really hit the spot. Man oh man are we putting down the food along this journey!
A huge shout out to Jeff, Scott, Milupa, Vytas, Ryan and Joe…it was an incredible experience to spend a week with you fighting the good fight to raise awareness for pediatric cancer. I look forward to finishing this ride with you on Friday the 3rd.
I knocked out some email after breakfast and had the absolute pleasure of eating lunch with my good friend, Larry Orwin, who was gracious enough to drive five hours, round-trip from Cleveland to Columbus. It was good to see Larry and connect on family, friends, and fitness. Of course, Larry ran 12 miles today and hit 110 for the week! He ranked as one of the top 10 ultra marathoners in his age group (60-65) and in a couple weeks he is shooting for a world record of more than 130 miles in 24 hrs. If anyone can do it, Larry can.
Larry and I talked about cancer and the impact it has on so many families. Larry lost his dad to cancer at 63 and he has been one of my biggest supporters along this Cal’s Angels journey…THANK YOU LARRY!
On a more somber note, I had some significant swelling in my legs and some chest tightness yesterday and it hasn’t improved. I tried my recovery boots, but after 40 minutes, the swelling didn’t reduce. I’ve been drinking a lot of water trying to flush my system, but decided it would be smart to go get checked out so Larry dropped me off at urgent care and they sent me to the ER to get some further testing just to make sure everything is OK. 👌
A little blood 🩸 work and an EKG at OSU hospital and now I’m sitting in a bed watching the Steelers game 🤢🤣 had a CT scan and I am hopeful everything comes back normal as I don’t want to miss a day riding for the precious lives lost to cancer.
5 hours later… Clean bill of health. No pulmonary embolisms and no evidence of any cardiac issues. I’m heading back to the hotel now. Hopefully get a good nights rest and get ready for our ride tomorrow.
